Let’s Cook with Mirin | Desly Japanese Cooking Wine

Have you ever visited a Japanese restaurant? Do you know about Japanese sweet cooking rice wine?

A few years back, while reading a Japanese cuisine recipe, I came to know about ‘Mirin’-a seasoning used in savory Japanese cuisines. I became a huge fan of‘ Mirin when I started using it in recipes at home.

If you haven’t heard about it before, let me tell you. Mirin is a fermented seasoning made from rice and rice curds with added sugars and salt.

November 30th is the Official Mirin Day in Japan, called the Hon Mirin Day.

Cooking with Mirin

Do you enjoy cooking delicious recipes? Is it easy for you to learn cooking? If I am not wrong, it doesn’t happen overnight.

Cooking is fun for me, and I love exploring different sausages, seasonings, and other cooking ingredients while shopping grocery items. I used to help my mom in the kitchen since childhood. Hey, listen, I am not a chef. I didn’t get training from a professional cooking class.

But I am the best cook in my family. ‘This is amazing,’ these words were a real motivator for me when I was at the learning stage.

“…No one is born a great cook; one learns by doing.” ―Julia Child

Even though I am not saying, I am the perfect one. But it’s there ward of what I have been learning for a long time. But I must say it’s easy to learn if you are passionate about it. Yes, I love cooking. It’s my passion.

"Cooking is not difficult.Everyone has taste, even if they don't realize it. Even if you're not a great chef, there's nothing to stop you from understanding the difference between what tastes good and what doesn't." ― Gerard Depardieu

Benefits of Cooking with Mirin

Coming back to the Japanese fermented seasoning, it’s almost magical how syrupy golden liquid (Mirin) suppresses the raw-smelling odor of meat and fish.

You might be wondering why the Japanese use Mirin in traditional cuisines? It tenderizes not only the meat but also the main glazing ingredient in teriyaki sauce along with soy sauce. Now it’s one of my favorite cooking wines.

I love the sweet flavor of Mirin in cuisines. It makes a nice combo with saltier seasonings like soy sauce or miso.

You can quickly prepare delicious barbecue sauce with Mirin. Mix Mirin with cinnamon, cumin, tomato paste, garlic, five-spice powder, and salt and pepper to make a mouth-watering barbecue sauce.

Mirin can add a delicate flavor to Japanese soups. Drizzle a small amount of rice wine just before serving. It works nicely over chicken soup.

Where to Buy Good Quality Mirin?

You might be thinking of where to buy good quality Mirin? To make your decision process easier, we suggest you buy it from Desly Foods. Desly Foods is well-known for selling the best quality Mirin.

Their Desly Brand Mirin is not only delicious but also removes fishy smell from the food, making it delightful and healthy. You can use it in various dishes, from Japanese traditional cuisines and sweets to Western cuisines.

Mirin has a strong taste, so always use it in a small proportion. Besides alcohol, it also has large amounts of sugar. One tablespoon of rice wine can give you as much as 4 grams of sugar

Conversely, if consumed in large quantities, Mirin can raise your blood sugar levels and ultimately put you at risk of insulin. So, always use it in a moderate amount.
